“A time to make friends™” – in Stuttgart. This is the official English motto of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™. In 2006, in Stuttgart, this declaration will become reality for two thousand and six young people from all over the world. Within the framework of the 2006 UNESCO World Youth Festival young people from more than one hundred nations will be welcomed in Stuttgart during the World Cup.

A diverse get-together programme of sport, culture and leisure activities, organised by local and regional groups, provides the opportunity to make many new friends: with the young people themselves, their host families and people from the numerous communities, organisations, associations, churches, institutions, companies and other partners in the Stuttgart region who are supporting the festival.

The whole festival is presented under the auspices of the FIFA World Cup 2006™, which, in this region, culminates with the match for third place in Stuttgart on the 8th July 2006.

Local activities have been co-ordinated with great attention to detail. Aside from their place of residence, like experiences will connect each visitor: from the welcoming ceremony in the respective town halls, excursions into the surrounding region, project days in schools and participation in local festivities.

The central programme for all the young participants and their host families has been prepared by the Federal Capital of Stuttgart. Some of the activities on offer will be: an event to welcome, as well as one to bid farewell, with speeches by representatives of UNESCO, the City of Stuttgart and the region as well as the Organising Committee of the FIFA World Cup 2006™; a show programme and various celebrations.

A sightseeing tour including visits to sights such as the TV-Tower, the Wilhelma Zoo and Botanical Gardens, the Mercedes Benz-Museum, Planetarium and Schloss Ludwigsburg round off the stay. A day of sport and a tour of Stuttgart’s nightlife are also on the programme.

All our guests are, of course, invited to the official World Cup programme: this includes the Festival of Nations taking place at the Schlossplatz and around the Eckensee with numerous cultural, musical and sport events by regional and international artists and groups; and to the public viewing of live broadcasts of World Cup matches as well.
