Introducing the guest from Portugal

Lisbon – Stuttgart: a promising partnership

Introducing our guest from Portugal Stuttgart and Lisbon are connected since last year. The Portuguese Youth Association AJEC and Stuttgarter Jugendhaus e.V have being developing a project under the auspices of Leonardo da Vinci Program.

Mr. Ricardo Silva, president of AJEC, and spokesman of the Portuguese delegation at the UNESCO world Youth Festival, speaks about the relationship Stuttgart- Lisbon.

How has the partnership between AJEC and SJEV started?

The partnership between both of the organizations started after a meeting held in Stuttgart, in November 2004, by the President of AJEC, Mr. Ricardo Silva, and the Vice-Chairman of SJEV, Mr. Andreas Dobers. In this meeting both representatives agreed on the importance of doing some kind of project together since their work was based in similar goals concerning youth issues. After this meeting, back in Lisbon, AJEC proposed to SJEV to do a Leonardo da Vinci project together, in order to send young professionals from Portugal to do internships in Stuttgart. This proposal was immediately accepted by the board of SJEV and after this the candidature was made to the Leonardo da Vinci Portuguese Agency. This EU organism approved our project, called Mais Além, and since July of 2005, 14 young Portuguese has or are doing internships in their filed of expertise in Stuttgart, in different and various working placements. Due to this good partnership, the SJEV also invited AJEC to select a group of 20 young Portuguese citizens to participate in the UNESCO World Youth Festival.
